FAQ

In-the-Ear hearing aids: FAQ

In-the-ear hearing aids are small, discreet hearing aids that sit snuggly in the outer ear bowl known as the concha. They are custom fit to the form of the user's ear and house the microphone, amplifier and speaker in a large shell.
ITE hearing aids are a great choice for users who value both comfort and a high-quality sound experience.

Since in-the-ear hearing aids are created using a mold of the user's ear, they fit comfortably in the ear, are small enough to go mostly unnoticed and are big enough to house features like rechargeable batteries, bluetooth capabilities and a clear sound experience.
Slightly bigger than in-the-canal styles, the larger shell of ITE hearing aids makes room for a bigger battery and powerful features.

With all essential elements directly inside the outer ear, you don't have to worry about a bulky, external device getting in your way. They are also custom-fit to the user's ear, making them very comfortable.

However, there can be downsides to this type of style.

Since the microphone and receiver are in close quarters, if the device isn't properly fitted or gets knocked out of place, it can lead to an unpleasant, high-pitched noise called feedback.

Since they are positioned directly in the ear, there is also a higher chance of earwax buildup. This makes maintenance and cleaning essential if you choose to go with an in-the-ear hearing aid.
While in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids fit into the entire outer bowl of the ear, also known as the concha, in-the-canal (ITC) hearing aids have a slightly smaller design, fitting into the lower portion of the outer ear. Due to their size and positioning, ITC hearing aids are less noticeable than ITE hearing aids.
While in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids fit into the entire outer bowl of the ear, also known as the concha, all components of the behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids can be found in a shell placed behind the user’s ear.

Because of their size, BTE hearing aids tend to be more powerful and have a longer battery life. ITE hearing aids, on the other hand, can be custom made to fit your ear and have a more discreet, smaller design.
Signia's Insio hearing aids are leading the way when it comes to powerful ITE hearing aid designs.

With a tailor-made custom fit, bluetooth capabilities and Signia's Augmented Xperience platform, user's benefit from a comfortable, small design that delivers a clear, quality sound even in the noisiest of environments.

Which type of hearing aid is right for you?

Choosing hearing aids involves considering various factors, including your level of hearing loss, ear size and shape, budget, preferred features, and stylistic preferences.

Your ideal choice may not align with your initial preferences, as factors like profound hearing loss or small ear canals may limit certain options.

Consulting with a hearing care expert during a store visit, where a full hearing test and consultation are conducted, will help you identify suitable types based on your needs and preferences. From there, you can explore different brands and models to find the right fit within your budget with the desired features.
